Description

Good thing Hitler didn’t see this twice-signed Udet portrait sketch

German airman, born in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a leading German air ace in WWI, and from 1935 worked in the German air ministry. A Luftwaffe quartermaster-general in WWII, having fallen out with the Gestapo, he committed suicide by crashing his aircraft. The authorities described his death as an accident while testing a new air weapon. Original vintage signed fountain pen skillful self-portrait showing a slightly inebriated cigarette smoking Udet piloting his biplane hell bent for Kannenberg’s, leaving a champagne bottle and glass behind on an off-white 7.75 x 7.75 album page. Signed at bottom in fountain pen, “Ernst Udet 6.6.30,” and signed again at the top in pencil, “After 10 years! Ernst Udet 13/9/40.” Reverse bears a signature and sentiment from German actress Jenny Jugo. In fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
