A marshal seeks an escaped outlaw: “I do not want to make one cent off him.... He is a bad man”

City Marshal of Texarkana who was voted into office in April 1884. ALS, three pages, 5.5 x 8.5, City Marshal letterhead, December 15, 1884. A letter to Sheriff W. T. Gunn regarding an escaped prisoner. In part: “Bill Taylor broke jail here about Sept. 10th went to you county, robed some houses, was arrested & convicted. I think got (4) years after wich he broke out of your jail (some man got his arm broke the same time) that Taylor got away…. I could get him for about $50. I do not want to make one cent off him…. Taylor is a bad man for that reason I would like to see him locked up. Let me here from you soon as possible as he dos not stay in one place very long.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with mild, even toning and usual mailing folds. R&R COA.
