TLS, one page on a 5.5 x 3.5 postal card, October 2, 1980. A great letter to a fan explaining the origin of “Captain Trips,” the virus that wipes out most of humanity in King’s 1978 novel The Stand. In full: “Thank you for your inquiry. I made up the name, partly from being inspired by the song, “Ride, Captain, Ride” and the phrase, “It’s a trip.” I wasn’t aware that Jerry Garcia was called that. Thanks for the information.” In fine condition, with album adhesive remnants to address panel and a few postal ink traces to correspondence panel, not affecting signature. R&R COA.
