Neilan got his start in Hollywood as D. W. Griffith’s chauffeur and went on to direct a number of silent-era and early talkie classics, including several films starring Mary Pickford. Interesting and varied lot of photos, correspondence, and ephemera related to Neilan, including: signed and inscribed 7.25 x 9 photo, dated 1917 in his hand; four unsigned photos of varying sizes featuring Neilan alone or with cast and/or crew members; two lengthy TLS and one ALS to employee Lucita Squier in which he discusses business and production matters related to various films; five unsigned telegrams to Squier related to various film-business matters; and a clippings related to Neilan’s career, including his 1958 New York Times obituary. In fine condition, with scattered dings, edge wear, and surface impressions to photos (one unsigned photo also trimmed), toning, usual folds, and paperclip marks to letters, and expected toning to clippings.
