Nicknamed “The man you love to hate,” the legendary director of the classic film Greed who is probably best remembered for his role in Sunset Boulevard, Von Stroheim, due to what he described as Hollywood’s boycott of him, spent the last several years of his life touring in the play “Arsenic and Old Lace,” in the role of Jonathan Brewster, the murderous fugitive. ALS in pencil to “Vally and Josef” (his wife and son) signed “Erich,” one page, 6 x 9.5, Hotel Schroeder, Milwaukee, Wisconsin letterhead, no date. In part: “I thought you might want to read the book of ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ which I got for Xmas from the producers. I also send a few of the criticisms. Keep them for me! Love, Erich.” In fine condition, with scattered light creasing, faint toning, bit of minor edge wear. R&R COA.
