As governor of New York, Tompkins appoints James J. Jones as "Ensign of a Company in the 85th Regiment of Infantry." Signed at the conclusion by Governor Tompkins and countersigned by Jacob R. Van Rensselaer as Secretary of State of New York. In very good to fine condition, with minor edge losses and partial splits to folds.
