Exceptionally rare 5.5 x 8.75 illustrated portrait of "John L. Sullivan, Champion of the World," signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "John L. Sullivan, at 24 years of age, to Robt Leggitt." Caption to lower border reads: "Photographed by Mora, expressly for the Illustrated Times…Only Genuine Portrait ever taken in Ring Costume." Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder. In fine condition, with wear to edges and horizontal folds, one passing through the first letter of his surname. Accompanied by full letters of authenticity from JSA and PSA/DNA. Signed photographs of Sullivan are exceedingly rare—the two examples offered in this auction represent the only two we have ever had.
