Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 13.5 x 16.75, May 18, 1847. President Polk appoints Robert G. Beale as "a Captain in the Fourteenth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by President Polk and countersigned by Secretary of War William L. Marcy. The crisply embossed white War Department seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with the body of the text light, but fully legible.
