Description

Eminent German economist and social reformer (1844-1931) who, in 1872, became involved in an extended dispute with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels after accusing Marx of falsifying a quotation from an 1863 speech by William Gladstone. Scarce 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photograph of the youthful Brentano by Emilie Bieber, signed at the bottom of the image in ink, "Lujo Brentano, 2.4.1898." In fine condition, with a later collector's stamp to reverse.
