Description

On firing manager Bob Lemon: "It was more my fault for not providing him with the players necessary to place a winning club on the field"

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Chicago White Sox letterhead, July 11, 1978. Letter to Houston Wiggins, in part: "Thank you for your letter regarding the replacement of Bob Lemon as Manager of the Chicago White Sox. As I commented to the news media, Lemon's release was in no way a commentary on his ability as a Manager. Rather, it was more my fault for not providing him with the players necessary to place a winning club on the field. However, something had to be done in an effort to shake up the team before it was too late. We can only hope that a change in leadership can, somehow, provide the spark necessary to result in improvement in the play of some of our athletes." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
