Flown fabric presentation created by the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum featuring an affixed dark brown 1.25 x 2 swatch excised from the Fokker T-2 that Lts. Oakley G. Kelly and John A. Macready piloted on the first nonstop transcontinental flight of the United States in 1923. The swatch is affixed to its original 15 x 20 informational poster, which was later signed in black felt tip, "John A. Macready." Framed to a slightly larger size. In very good to fine condition, with light staining to the top of the poster.
John A. Macready (1887-1979) was an American test pilot and aviator, who was the only three-time recipient of the Air Force's Mackay Trophy for 'most meritorious flight of the year.' He was recognized with the honor for a high altitude flight in 1921, a 36-hour endurance flight in 1922, and the transcontinental flight in 1923.
