Description

Retired United States Marine Corps Major General (born 1946) and a former astronaut who flew on four Space Shuttle missions. In 2009, he became the first African American to serve as NASA administrator on a permanent basis. International Astronautical Federation (IAF) World Space Award presented to NASA astronaut Charles Bolden in 2017. The gold-tone medal measures 4.75″ in diameter and features a raised design of the IAF emblem, with lower portion engraved: “IAF World Space Award 2017, Maj. Gen. Charles Frank Bolden, Jr.” The medal is permanently housed in a handsome wooden folding case. Included with the award: Bolden’s personal United States Marine Corps leather chest badge with Velcro backing; Bolden’s personal NASA / JSC credential card; and an HID Corporation identification card issued to Bolden. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a photo showing Bolden accepting the award at the IAF ceremony. Provenance: Elwoods Auction: Charles Bolden Estate Auction.
