ALS in French, signed “Elie Metchnikoff,” one page, 4.25 x 6.75, Institut Pasteur letterhead, May 16, 1906. Letter replying to an invitation from a colleague, in part (translated): "Thank you very much for your kind invitation, which I accept with the greatest of enthusiasm. I am only confused, being so unworthy of the honor you do me and this all the more so as I am not able to speak your language." In fine condition, with a stain touching the signature.
