Description

Sending thanks to his budget director for reviewing a Paris Conference report in response to the Marshall Plan

TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, October 30, 1947. Letter to Budget Bureau director James Webb. In full: "The Acting Secretary of State, in reporting to me on the progress made in examining the report submitted by the Paris Conference on European Economic Recovery and in the formulation of an Administration position with regard to this report, has expressed great appreciation of the assistance received from you and the members of your Bureau working on this matter. While I naturally expect the fullest measure of cooperation from members of the Executive Departments, I am very gratified at the fine teamwork being displayed both by the individuals and the agencies involved. I have noted it with pleasure, and I commend you and your associates for the great efforts being made in this undertaking. I hope you will pass on to the personnel of your Bureau who have been so helpful, an assurance of my gratitude and appreciation for their work." A short handwritten note by Truman on a 5 x 3 slip, originally affixed to the bottom of the letter reads: "This proposition looks as if we should comply. Please talk to Cong. Bates about it. HST." In fine condition, with a small tape remnant to lower right corner.
