Less than a week after V-E Day, "regarding my Proclamation" of victory

TLS, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, May 12, 1945. Letter to Martin A. Lewis, in full, “Your kind message regarding my Proclamation is indeed greatly appreciated. My warmest thanks to you!” Truman adds a handwritten postscript: “Why don’t you come in and say hello?” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope. Truman’s friend, Martin A. Lewis, Jr., had served as Chief of Missouri Parks and Refuges from 1929-1932. Just four days earlier, President Truman officially announced the surrender of Germany from the White House Radio Room on May 8, 1945, signaling the end of World War II.
