Justice Taft evades a "question on the subject of the construction of the Constitution"

TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Supreme Court of the United States letterhead, March 19, 1929. Letter to Mildred C. Matson, in full: "You will have to excuse me from answering a question on the subject of the construction of the Constitution, which is a subject matter often before our Court, and in respect to which the members of the Court must be careful not to express opinions on matters that have not been authoritatively settled." In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and staple holes to the upper left corner.
