John Penn

Partly-printed DS, signed on the reverse, “J. Penn atty,” one page, 10.5 x 4, February 26, 1787. Legal document filled out in Penn’s hand, with his writing represented by brackets in this text. In part: “To the Sheriff of [Warren] County, Greeting: You are hereby commanded to take the bod[y] of [John Hulm] if to be found in your bailiwick, and [him] safely keep so that you have [him]…at the court-house in [Warrenton] on the [fourth] Monday in [May] next, then and there to answer [James Williamson Priscilla Williamson & Benjamin Williamson Exrs Lewis Williamson Decd of a plea of Trespass on the case of Damage one hundred & fifty pounds].” Signed at the conclusion by Marmaduke Johnson, the Warren County clerk, and signed and docketed on the reverse by Penn. All together, the document contains over 40 words in Penn’s hand. In very good to fine condition, with a bit of show-through from docketing to reverse. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
