Debuting as a magician at the age of sixteen, Will Goldston later became a merchandiser of magic tricks and the editor of Magician Annual and Magician Monthly, publications that did much in promoting American illusionists to the European populace. In part to Goldston’s good advice, Thurston quickly implemented the “Rope Trick”—which involves a length of cord eerily rising from a basket and the magician, or the magician’s assistant, climbing it until they’re out of view—into his legendary magic show.
