Description

Pioneering astronaut’s schoolwork, including some of his earliest known signatures

Hardcover scrapbook, 9 x 10, containing original school art projects, class assignments, and homework. Dating from 1928–1930, scrap book contains 19 class assignments, all in pencil, ranging from handwriting, spelling, math, and memory exercises, most of which are signed by Shepard, the first signed at a very young age, “Alan,” and progressing to “Alan Shepard, Jr,” and one early full “Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr.” The front portion is made up of cut out coloring shapes and objects, consistent with work done during different seasons, including: George Washington, fruit, the Mayflower, a Christmas tree, a snowman, and a heart and cupids, all affixed to individual pages, with everything in the book back-to-back. In very good condition, with expected age wear. One of the most unique artifacts from America’s first astronaut. RRAuction COA.
