ALS in French, signed “Renoir,” penned on the reverse of a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard bearing a photo of ‘An Arab Street’ in Cagnes, France, postmarked from Cagnes, on February 11, 1905. Handwritten letter to French artist and Post-Impressionist painter Paule Gobillard, in full (translated): “We are ready for you here. I hope you will be comfortable with us. Please, could you tell us the day and time of your arrival. If you take the 2 o'clock train, you can dine in Dijon, and coffee with milk in Cannes. Above all, dress warmly. It is very cold at night, despite the hot water bottles.” In fine condition.
Paule Gobillard was a French artist (1867–1946) who was the niece of the renowned impressionist painter Berthe Morisot, and through this familial connection, she became acquainted with many prominent artists of the time. Her relation to Pierre-Auguste Renoir was that of a niece-in-law; Paule Gobillard's aunt, Julie Manet (the daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugène Manet), married Eugène Renoir, who was Pierre-Auguste Renoir's brother. This connection brought Paule into close contact with her mentor Renoir, for whom she often modeled.
