Trinidad-born American aviation pioneer (1897–1983) known as 'the Black Eagle,' known for his daring stunts and feats: he parachuted over Harlem while playing a gold-plated saxophone in 1923; attempted a transatlantic flight, from New York City to Liberia, by seaplane in 1924; and flew in defense of the Ethiopian Empire against Italy in the 1930s and 1940s. Vintage fountain pen signature, "Hubert Julian, Colonel, Negro Aviator,” on an off-white 7.5 x 6.75 dedication sheet removed from a program from Balboa High School, San Francisco. Also signed by actors and singers Salem Tutt Whitney, Richard Harrison, Viola Mickens, Evelyn Burwell, and other members of the ensemble from Marc Connelly's play The Green Pastures. In fine condition.
