Description

Rare original ticket for the “Halloween Mod Happening,” part of Andy Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia series, which was held at Leicester Airport in Leicester, Massachusetts, on October 30, 1966. The ticket, 4 x 2.5, issued as No. 1306, lists both the Velvet Underground and Nico as musical performers. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as "NM 7."

The Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI) was a multimedia performance created by the American artist Andy Warhol in 1966. The show combined music, film, dance, and other artistic elements to create an immersive experience for the audience. The name "Exploding Plastic Inevitable" is a reference to the plastic culture of the 1960s and the idea that it was both unstoppable and destructive.

The EPI featured Warhol's art films projected onto a large screen while the Velvet Underground, a band managed by Warhol, played live music. The performers, including dancer Gerard Malanga, would interact with the films and each other, creating a chaotic and unpredictable atmosphere. The lighting and sound effects were also an important part of the show, with flashing lights and strobes adding to the sensory overload.

The EPI was performed in several cities across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and was a significant influence on the development of the psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s. The show is seen as a precursor to modern multimedia performance art and has had a lasting impact on popular culture.
