Scarce original program for the memorial service of John Entwistle, which took place at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London, on October 24, 2002. The two-page program, 5.75 x 8.25, features a wonderful color portrait of The Who’s legendary bass player on the front cover, which has been signed in blue ballpoint by Roger Daltrey, Kenny Jones, and Jimmy Page. In fine condition, with a light central horizontal bend. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
John Entwistle passed away on June 27, 2002, at the age of 57. His funeral was held on July 10, 2002, at St. Edward's Church in Stow-on-the-Wold, England, and was attended by many of Entwistle's family, friends, and colleagues in the music industry, including his bandmates from The Who, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. Other notable musicians who attended the service included Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, and Gary Brooker.
During the service, several eulogies were given in tribute to Entwistle's life and career. Pete Townshend spoke about Entwistle's unique style of playing bass, which he described as ‘lead bass.’ Roger Daltrey praised Entwistle's musical talents and his quiet, unassuming nature offstage. The service also featured performances of several songs, including ‘My Generation’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright,’ which were played by a band made up of members of The Who and other musicians.
After the service, a private cremation was held for Entwistle's remains, and his ashes were later scattered on the grounds of his estate in Stow-on-the-Wold, where he had lived for many years.
