Description

Two sheets of handwritten notes by rocket scientist Lovell Lawrence, Jr., who developed the first engine to break the sound barrier while working with Reaction Motors, Inc. The unsigned sheets, 8.5 x 9 and 8.5 x 13, contain a variety of notes, calculations, diagrams, and schematics in both ink and pencil. Includes two original vintage glossy 10 x 8 photos of Lawrence, one by himself (reverse bears a Chrysler Corporation stamp dated July 2, 1958), and another him with others at the Annual Joint Dinner of Engineers and Scientists in Richmond, Virginia, on February 21, 1958. In very good to fine condition, with dampstaining to the handwritten drawings. Accompanied by newspaper clippings and a flyer for a 1963 “Annual ‘Ladies Nite’ Meeting” at the Skaneateles Country Club, featuring a talk by Lawrence entitled ‘Living in the Space Era.’ From the collection of aerospace memorabilia specialist Ken Havekotte.
