AES as president, "Ref'd to Sec'y of the Navy, M. F., Jan'y 7," in the margin of a letter written to him by Congressman W. A. Newell, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, January 5, 1851. Newell writes that he is enclosing a letter from former Congressman Dudley S. Gregory, endorsing the "moral character, and qualifications" of John Gulick. In fine condition, with light creasing to two corners, and a small stain to the text.
