Magnificent illuminated manuscript apostolic benediction, signed "Pius PP XI," one page, 15.25 x 21.5, in full: "Henry J. Ryan, humbly prostrate at the feet of your Holiness, begs the apostolic Benediction and a Plenary Indulgence to be gained at the hour of death, on condition that, being truly sorry for his sins, but unable to confess them and to receive the holy Viaticum, he shall at least invoke with his lips or heart the Holy Name of Jesus.” The upper section bears an affixed portrait of Pope Pius, and the document is signed by him at the conclusion. In fine condition, with light edge toning.
