Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 20 x 15, November 10, 1877. President Hayes appoints Frederick A. Pratt as "Collector of Customs for the District of Newport in the State of Rhode Island." Signed neatly at the conclusion by Rutherford B. Hayes as president and countersigned by John Sherman as secretary of the Treasury. In very good condition, with staining and soiling, fading to the signature, and areas of paper loss repaired with complete backing.
