Description

Scarce official staple-bound report entitled "Apollo 15 Lunar Lift-Off: The First 3 Seconds (MSC Internal Note No. 71-FM-318, August 5, 1971)," prepared by the Manned Spacecraft Center's Landing Analysis Branch, 8.5 x 11, four pages, offering brief discussions of the Apollo 15 lunar liftoff based on photographs captured from a standard television set; the last page is a fold-out sequence of the images. The liftoff was broadcast from the ground television camera of the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Stapled to the front cover are four glossy photos of the liftoff, plus the business card of a consulting chemist. The cover also bears an affixed label, "MIT//Russ Larson." In fine condition.

Russ Larson worked as a program engineer and astronaut liaison at MIT's Instrumentation Lab, where he was involved in programming the Lunar Module's Apollo Guidance Computer; he worked directly with the astronaut crews, training them on the simulators and guidance system.
