Large vintage circa late 1950s or early 1960s NASA telemetry encoder/decoder demonstration unit housed in two large green cases, measuring 21″ x 19″ x 11″ and 18″ x 21″ x 18″, with control/indicator panels on one side and windows displaying the internal hardware and circuitry on the other. The encoder unit features a meteoroid detector, aspect sensor, temperature sensor, and reference input on the face, with lighted indicators, and a Defense Electronics, Inc. identification plate on the reverse: "PFM Telemetry Demo Encoder Unit, Model No. PFD-11(A), Serial No. 126." The decoder unit has a reel-to-reel tape recorder on the face, with built-in digital readout, binary readout, analog meter, and audio output. The reverse bears a Defense Electronics, Inc. identification plate: "PFM Telemetry Demo Decoder Unit, Model No. PFD-11(B), Serial No. 132."
