You are quite right in your ideas as to the manner in which those should be treated who differed from you and my other friends previous to the Chicago convention, as to the expediency of my nomination. All who show any disposition to acquiesce in the action taken at Chicago ought certainly without any regard to their previous opinions, to be greeted and trusted as democrats whose assistance in the campaign is heartily welcomed. Hoping that your State will not be led by delusion away from the support which she has habitually given to the party of her choice." In fine condition. Cleveland had been nominated for president at the Democratic National Convention in July, and would go on to win the election in November—becoming the only US president to serve non-consecutive terms.
