Description

Rare letter from the Rolls-Royce founder

British businessman (1877-1910) who, with his partner Frederick Henry Royce, founded one of the most legendary firms in automotive history, and whose name became synonymous with the ultimate in automotive luxury and status. An ardent aviator, Rolls set a number of early aviation records, including the first non-stop double crossing of the English Channel. In the same year, 1910, Rolls became the first Briton (and only the eleventh person) to die in an aviation accident when the tail of his Wright Flyer broke off in flight. ALS signed “C. S. Rolls,” one page both sides, 4 x 6, The Hendre of Monmouth letterhead, March 20, 1894. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in full: “Do you think you could kindly forward me on my Bach, Stainer and Rinck’s works, which I left in the Music Hall, I thought I should come to another practice, or would have taken them before. I am very sorry to trouble you.” In fine condition, with two small stains along the hinge. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as "GEM MT 10." Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
