Description

Chinese diplomat (1899-1978) who served as the Republic of China's ambassador to the United States during the Second World War (1942-1946). Scarce World War II-dated TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Chinese Embassy letterhead, June 1, 1943. Letter to noted autograph collector Theodore Stillwell, in part: “It is very heartening to us in our great struggle for freedom and democracy to know that we are fighting and working with the people of another great democracy—the United States of America. I regret to say that we are unable to furnish you with the autographs of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek and Madame Chiang.” In very good to fine condition, with heavy staining affecting only appearance. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
