United States Air Force general (1921-1990) who served as Director of NASA's Apollo program from 1964 to 1969. He also served as commander of the Space and Missile Systems Organization (SAMSO), as the seventh Director of the National Security Agency, and as commander of the Air Force Systems Command. Vintage glossy 7.5 x 9.25 photo of Major General Phillips in his U.S. Air Force uniform, signed in blue ink, "Sam. C. Phillips, Maj. Gen. USAF, Apollo Program Director (NASA)." Affixed to a cloth-covered mount and in very good condition, with scattered light creases and surface impressions, and an emulsion blemish to his lapel.
