It is a tribute to you and your excellent staff at the United Nations that the corner has been turned, and the interests of the United States have been furthered as a consequence. It is a significant achievement for the United States.
Of particular importance, I believe, was your initiative with the Congress which led to the legislation which now requires Congress to take account each year of how countries behave in the United Nations when deliberating about U.S. economic assistance programs. This has resulted in a greater awareness in both our Congress and in foreign capitals of the importance we attached to responsible actions in the United Nations. You took on an enormous task four years ago, Jeane, and have achieved marvelous results for our country. I am personally very grateful and proud. Nancy joins me in sending warm holiday wishes to you, Kirk and your family.” In very fine condition.
