American statesman (1814-1886) who served as Governor of New York and who was the unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate in the infamous disputed election of 1876. ALS signed “S. J. Tilden,” one page, 4.5 x 7, March 8, 1857. Letter providing the address for John Rand, in part: "It will give me pleasure to call at your house and accompany you to his studio, if you can mention some morning when it will be convenient to you."
