US Army officer (1807-1891) who served in the Mexican-American War and Seminole Wars, and was also one of the most senior general officers in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Rare 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of Johnston in a dignified bust-length pose, crisply signed on the mount in ink, "J. E. Johnston." Published by an anonymous studio. In fine condition. Johnston signed photos are scarce and those that do surface are usually cartes-de-visite; a highly desirable format, especially in this larger size. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
