(Warner Brothers Studios, circa 1990s) Original drawing by Virgil Ross of Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog, inspired by a scene from the classic Merrie Melodies cartoon A Sheep in the Deep, which was released on February 10, 1962. Signed below in pencil by Ross. Accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 12.5 x 10.5 animation paper, with the total image measuring 11.5 x 9. In fine condition.
Ralph Wolf has virtually the same character design as another Chuck Jones character, Wile E. Coyote—brown fur, wiry body, and huge ears, but with a red nose in place of the Coyote's black one; (usually) white eyes instead of the Coyote's yellow ones; and, occasionally, a fang protruding from his mouth.
