Congressman Kennedy had won his Senate election in November 1962, and took his seat in the Senate on January 3, 1953. At the start of his first term, he focused on Massachusetts-specific issues by sponsoring bills to help the fishing, textile manufacturing, and watchmaking industries.
McMorrow (1926-2008) later served as the chairman of Boston's school committee before he was appointed as deputy mayor of Boston in 1960.
