Partly-printed DS in Italian, one page, 8 x 10.75, September 12, 1817. Certificate issued by the caretaker of the Basilica della Santa Casa, a Marian shrine in Loreto, Italy, bearing an affixed black swatch of a veil worn by the miraculous statue 'The Black Madonna of Loreto.' The basilica is known for enshrining the house in which the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed by some Catholics to have lived; it also held the statue known as the 'Black Madonna of Our Lady of Loreto,' which was incinerated in a fire in 1921. Today, a copy of the statue stands in its place. In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
