French military commander (1762-1833) who served during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars, remembered for his decisive victory over the First Coalition at the Battle of Fleurus during the Flanders campaign. He was made a Marshal of the Empire by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804. ALS in French, signed “Jourdan,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 9, Army of Sambre-et-Meuse letterhead, August 18, 1796. Untranslated handwritten letter by Jourdan to "General Grenier" on military matters. In fine condition.
