Prussian zoologist and botanist (1741-1811) remembered for his work in Russia under the auspices of Catherine II; his name is given to several things that he discovered or described, including pallasite (a class of stony-iron meteorite characterized by large olivine crystals), Pallas's cat (known for its round pupils), Pallas's fish eagle, Pallas's viper, and several others.
