Edison celebrates 80: "The birthday I have just passed was a notable and pleasant one"

TLS signed “Thos. A. Edison,” one page, 8.5 x 11, From the Laboratory of Thomas A. Edison letterhead, February 16, 1927. Letter to Frederick B. Patterson of Dayton, Ohio, in full: "The birthday I have just passed was a notable and pleasant one, and your message of congratulations and good-will gives me the opportunity to greet and thank you for your kind remembrance." In fine condition, with a few small edge stains. Edison celebrated his 80th birthday on February 11th.

Frederick Beck Patterson (1892-1971) was president of the National Aeronautical Association from 1923 to 1924, and is remembered for spearheading the fundraising campaign to purchase the land that became Wright-Patterson Airforce Base. He was also president of the National Cash Register Company, one of America's largest and most innovative manufacturers of the era: in addition to producing millions of cash registers, the firm built aircraft instrumentation, code-breaking machines, and other military apparatus. A unique piece of correspondence between two men who helped to revolutionize American industry.
