Description

Scholar, jurist, opponent of slavery (1726-1806) who was the first of the seven Virginia signatories of the Declaration of Independence. Scarce ADS signed "Wythe for the Pl.," one page both sides, 7 x 6, April 7, 1746. Wythe writes out a legal document, in small part: "Fielding Lewis of Spotsylvania County complains of John Christopher and Thomas Fox…of a Plea of Debt that they render to him twenty seven Pounds six Shillings and four Pence which they owe to and unjustly detain from him." Archivally mounted, matted, and framed under Tru-Vue Museum Glass to an overall size of 13.5 x 12.5; a color copy of the opposite side is displayed on the reverse. In fine condition.
