Description

English historical novelist (1805-1882) remembered for his 1834 novel Rookwood, which features famed highwayman Dick Turpin as its leading character. ALS signed "W. Harrison Ainsworth," one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, April 5, 1869. Handwritten letter to Julia Goddard, in part: "I thank you very much for your poem, and beg you will be kind enough to send it, when completed…to… Mr. Charles Whitney's Printing Office…Of course, you will retain the copyright of the poem, and can reprint it in any form you think proper. A proof shall, of course, be sent you, which had better be returned…I think the poem should appear in the June No. of the New Monthly." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Ainsworth's hand.
