Description

Khedive of Egypt and conqueror of Sudan from 1863 to 1879, remembered for the modernization of Egypt through investments in industrial and economic development, urbanization, and the expansion of the country's boundaries in Africa; in spite of overseeing the construction of the Suez Canal, severe debt resulting from his policies led to its sale to the British government. LS in French, signed “Ismail,” one page both sides, 8 x 10, black-bordered personal letterhead, October 10, 1875. Untranslated letter to "Your Imperial Majesty," sending thanks for having ensured the education of his son Hassan and promising that he will have in him, when he returns to Egypt, a faithful officer, ready to do anything for his service. In fine condition.
