Admiral (1813-1891) who helped improve the Navy as the superintendent of the US Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War. ALS signed “D. D. Porter,” one page, 5 x 8, U.S. Naval Academy letterhead, 1866. Handwritten letter, in part: "I received a note from Mrs. Campbell about the picture and telling me to enclose the money to you. She did not say whether you would remain in Washington or not." In fine condition.
