United States Air Force test pilot (1931-1966) selected as a NASA astronaut in 1963 and assigned to the crew of Gemini 9 with Elliot See; Bassett and See were killed on February 28, 1966, when their T-38 trainer jet crashed into McDonnell Aircraft Building 101. Block of four Project Mercury 4-cent stamps, 4 x 2.25, signed in black ballpoint, "Charles A. Bassett II." In fine condition, with moderate signature contrast.
