Description

Illegitimate son of Benjamin Franklin (1730-1813) who served as the last colonial governor of New Jersey. ALS signed “Wm. Franklin,” one page, 7.25 x 9, August 26, 1769. Handwritten letter to Thomas Wharton, in part: "I expected to have the Pleasure of seeing you at Philad'a before this Time…Some unexpected business has obliged me to postpone my Journey…The Plan of the Survey I shall bring with me." In very good to fine condition, with toning and tears to the upper right edge.
