Description

Distinguished American-born artist (1856-1925) who spent most of his career as an expatriate in Europe. While he painted a variety of subjects in various media, his fame rests primarily on his evocative, penetrating society portraits. ALS signed “John S. Sargent,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 6.5, no date. Handwritten letter to Professor Norton, in part: "I regretted not having found you at home this afternoon. I should have liked to have expressed my thanks to you for the kind attention that you made to us during that…crossing." In fine condition.
