Handwritten letter to publisher William Heinemann, in part: "I am at the present minute making an absolute slave of myself, and out of all the lighter pleasantries of life to which you Londoners are accustomed!…In short I am working from morning to the end of each day—though you need not spread the report…Also I am in a condition of work that I would not have interrupted for anything!…so if our business brings your over you had better put off your visit till later on." In fine condition, with scattered ink stains.
